Ertof Dand is the leader of a group of bandits during the events of Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn. He has heard that Gorion's Ward has amassed many valuable items worth stealing.

RISE AND SHINE! Oh, I hope I didn't disturb ye. My, but ye're a bunch of sound sleepers. Did'nay hear the approach of us wee little bandits, and now look at the mess ye're in.

Gameplay[]

If Gorion's Ward is a male human, elf, half-elf or halfling, and the romance with Jaheira has reached a certain point (Jaheira's Local variable LoveTalk = 27), Ertof and his band might appear any time the party is resting outdoors. Otherwise, this encounter will never happen.

Ertof's band wake the party with a blade at Jaheira's throat, and an ultimatum to hand over all their possessions or else. Gorion's Ward will then have a few different dialog options, which may affect the outcome of the romance.

If the protagonists chooses the options "Alright, no one do anything..." and "...Leave her be, I'll be your hostage" and "..take me instead...let's make this easy" then, Ertof will agree, "Yes, let's make this very easy indeed! Kracer, take the shot!" Gorion's Ward then receives "the shot" that inflicts damage equal to half of current hit points. This shot is delivered by an unseen assailant, Kracer. However, there is no creature file for Kracer; it is only a dialog/story element, and not anyone upon which Jaheira or the Ward can avenge themselves. After Jaheira's outrage and Ertof's delightful response, the battle is on.

Along with Ertof are two more fighters named Jarden and Turg, a thief named Tamile, and a cleric named Wurn. Each bandit is worth 2,500 XP, except for Tamile (1,500 XP).

Notes[]

  • For plot scripting purposes Ertof can see invisible creatures by script.
  • Ertof is temporarily protected with the MINHP1.ITM to ensure plot integrity. It is later destroyed during a set dialogue point.
  • The Reflection Shield can deflect the special 50% damage attack on the PC mentioned above, if the shield is equipped.

Sword Coast Stratagems mod revises all of these bandits. Each is assigned new default SCS AI scripts for smarter tactical behavior. Wurn will self-buff at the outset of hostilities. The thief Tamile will attempt to backstab after quaffing a invisibility potion - watch out if you are a mage or have a mage in the party as that is the priority target. All of the bandits have reworked weapon proficiencies and weapon fighting styles commensurate with their experience levels and class.

Ertof Dand will quaff a Potion of Hill Giant Strength at the outset of hostilities, and then engage in melee. Ertof has 5 pips in long sword proficiency and 2 pips in single weapon fighting style, so he'll have an improved APR, THAC0. damage and armor class from the unmodified game creatures. This is SCS upping the challenge factor.
