Baldur's Gate Wiki

The Enchanted Weapon spell enchants weapons with powerful magic.

Description[]

Enhanced Editions[]

When this spell is cast on a creature, it enchants any weapons that it currently wields. For the duration of the spell, those weapons are treated as having a +3 enchantment for the purposes of determining what they can hit.

Original Baldur's Gate II[]

This spell conjures forth a +3 enchanted weapon that may be used by anyone. The weapon may be either a mace, axe, long sword or short sword. The weapon stays in existence for no longer than a day.

Gameplay[]

Enhanced Editions[]

The caster applies this spell to a single creature at touch range, including to self if desired.

Upon completion of the spell all the spell recipient's weaponry, ammunition, and even their bare fists will be treated as +3 enchanted items for the purposes of what they can strike.

When a creature affected by this spell uses a weapon or ammunition, that item gets imbued with magic. As long as its user remains that creature, it becomes Magical with at least a +3 Enchantment.

If the enchantment on the weapon or ammunition was already higher than +3, it will not be downgraded.

Main hand, off-hand, ammo slots, fist, shapeshifted "weapons", magically-created weapons or ammo, everything is a candidate for magical enhancement. Thus it is great to use, for example, on Monks or Shapeshifters while their natural weapons don't have high enchantment yet.

Different weapons can be equipped or created at any time, as long as Enchanted Weapon is running, they will be imbued with magic until unequipped or until end of spell.

The spell recipient keeps this passive power for 5 rounds per level of the caster, up to 100 rounds at level 20.

Enchanted Weapon only affects the enchantment value – the matching THAC0 and damage bonuses that most weapons have are separate and this spell does not apply them.

In the first opus, only a Sorcerer can learn this spell. There isn't any scroll for it until Siege of Dragonspear.

Warning:When used with Contingency, Chain Contingency, Spell Sequencer or Spell Trigger, the original version of the spell will be used instead, as described below.

Original Baldur's Gate II[]

The caster selects one weapon from a list of four, to appear in his inventory. The weapon thus created is functionally equivalent to Long Sword +3, Short Sword +3, Battle Axe +3 or Mace +3, but with a different appearance and the caveat that it will disappear after one day.

It can be passed on to other party members, but they need to be able to use weapons of this type to equip it.

The Spell Revisions mod has not changed this arcane spell much in Enhanced Editions, only revising its duration cap and lowering its range to 0.
