Baldur's Gate Wiki

Elven Warrior enemies will be spawned from various openings into the Challenge 1: Retribution room during chapter eight - up to eight of them may be encountered if the Ward is of Evil alignment, four of each variety.

The warriors are the middle "waves" of attackers in this challenge - note that the InfoBox is combining the two varieties together, as they are mostly identical.

One variety (CHGOOD04.cre) is favors melee attacks with the sword, and only uses its bow in rare circumstances, while the other (CHGOOD05.cre) is a bow and arrow attacker first, and only swaps to sword when pressed upon closely and it can't retreat and fire without an opponent in their face.

Gameplay[]

These enemy creatures will move to attack the nearest enemy in detection range - either up close, or with missile fire.

The creature has a few immunities, as shown in the InfoBox.

The elven warriors are wearing the Boots of Elvenkind and the Cloak of Elvenkind, but those items won't affect their scripted actions nor provide any tangible benefits to them during this challenge, as the elves do not attempt to move silently or hide in shadows.

These creatures will drop their enchanted long swords when defeated, but all other gear isn't left behind.

The Sword Coast Stratagems mod raised their HP slightly, and each elf has the same SCS AI fighter script which allows using either melee or ranged attacks based on different criteria than the unmodded scripts - it's determined by a slew of factors that are analyzed by the elf when in combat, regardless of which weapon is in their primary weapon slot. So, there is little if any difference between the two creatures in this encounter.

As they are level 5 fighters, SCS plays fair and corrects proficiencies to class and level, so these elves have 3-points in long bow, and 2-points in long sword, and single weapon fighting style.
