This area is technically part of Spellhold.

The party appears in a rectangular room facing north. An impressive central table dominates the central area of the space. Upon it is seen various tableware, expensive cutlery and bowls laden with fruits, nuts, sweet cakes and other delicacies. To the left (west), center (north) and right (east) are seated four somber robed figures facing the party. They are silent and make no gestures at first meeting.

Gameplay[]

This room is where the party is transported to by the Apparition. If they player has found themselves here, then this is a good sign, and the previous answers given to Apparition have been deemed to have mental clarity and are not considered problematic by the Arbiters.

The apparitions make no effort to initiate any conversation and curiously watch the party.

Any of the four can be spoken to individually at first.

The design of this encounter, and the dialogue to come means that it doesn't matter which of these four apparitions are engaged first. For the sake of providing a description of this encounter the wiki will just begin with the apparition to the party's left, seated in the westernmost chair. Initiate dialogue by speaking to the creature.

The apparition (ELEPUZ01) will begin with:

"Found your way into the secret of places? What should we do with you?" - and then more with "Wandering to the edges of madness, did you expect to find sense and reason?"

Afterwards another apparition (ELEPUZ02) interjects an answer with:

""None in this place, no matter how thorough the searching."

And a third apportion (ELEPUZ03) interjects:

"To even suggest such a thing from the departed and deranged..."

Then the fourth (ELEPUZ04) says:

"Aye, it suggests imbalance even in the asking."

This discussion among the apparitions continues, with "Then what is the proper fate?" - and then another says "Answer nonsense with nonsense. Let a backstep of logic move them forward."

The apparition now addresses the party and says:

"No sense to be had. Let us see how far into the strangeness you can stride. Answer me this, and decide where you end."

The first riddle is then presented by the apparition (ELEPUZ01).

First riddle[]

The first apparition (ELEPUZ01) says:

"It is better than the best of things and worse than the worst of things. You love it more than life. You fear it more than death. The rich have need of it, and the poor have it in endless supply."

The party must now make a selection from eight potential answer choices. If the correct answer is given, the apparition says - "Giddy I am with the clarity of your perception, but free you are not. Have my fellows questions for this young mad<MANWOMAN>?". Another apparition will then take over and ask the second riddle.

If an incorrect answer is given, the apparition will exclaim:

"A failure in your fathoming of the task at hand. The question is done, as are your wanderings in the secret places." - a second apparition interjects "Back, back to the path of hardship and pain. No extras for the wandering mad."

The party is then transported to the Sahuagin Room (Spellhold Test) area.

Second riddle[]

The second apparition (ELEPUZ02) says:

"It runs as it will, but never does it walk. There is a mouth to see, but never does it talk. A bed it surely owns, but never does it sleep. Possesses it a head, but not a one that weeps."

The party must now make a selection from eight potential answer choices. If the correct answer is given, the apparition says - "An answer that moves you forward, though only if you know where you began. Answer another from my kind to progress.". Another apparition will then take over and ask the third riddle.

If an incorrect answer is given, the apparition will exclaim:

"A failure. Unfortunate, though the loss is hard to measure when you do not know your starting point. " - the first apparition interjects "A failure in your fathoming of the task at hand. The question is done, as are your wanderings in the secret places." - and then second apparition follows with, ""Back, back to the path of hardship and pain. No extras for the wandering mad."

The party is then transported to the Sahuagin Room (Spellhold Test) area.

Third riddle[]

The third apparition (ELEPUZ03) says:

" And know that though there is no sense, progression is measured by a scale unknown. Move on, move on." and this is followed by the riddle:
"I make you weak at the worst of all times, but in the end, I keep you safe. You'll sweat in my presence even as you grow cold. I dwell with the weak, rarely the brave, but without me, who could tell the difference?"

The party must now make a selection from eight potential answer choices. If the correct answer is given, the apparition says - " A success that moves you towards goals you cannot know. Does it satisfy? Who can say? ". the fourth apparition will then take over and ask the fourth and final riddle.

If an incorrect answer is given, the apparition will exclaim:

"A failing of your mind to comprehend what it was not supposed to. Unfortunate, though you lose nothing you should have had. " - the second apparition interjects "Back to where you would have been had you not slipped into the secrets. Back, and yet forward. Such is madness."

The party is then transported to the Fire Room (Spellhold Test) area.

Fourth riddle[]

The fourth apparition (ELEPUZ04) answers the third apparition and says:

" It does, though not enough. One last wordplay to see if you think as we. Then you shall get what you could not have had." and this is followed by the riddle:
"It brings back the lost as though never gone, shines laughter or tears with light long since shone. A moment to make, a lifetime to shed, valued when, but lost when you're dead."

The party must now make a selection from eight potential answer choices. If the correct answer is given, the apparition says:

" Your thoughts are clear and flowing, and free you are from here. Onward, to places secret and rewarding.". the third apparition will then say "Yes, onward, and leave this festive place. You will see the unknown, and if willing, receive its gifts."

This is followed by an exchange of commentary from the second apparition, "This makes very little sense at all." - and the final statement from the first apparition summing it all up with "Then it is more than I would have hoped from a room of the maddened dead."

The party is then transported to the Troll Cave (Spellhold Test) area.

If an incorrect answer is given, the apparition will exclaim:

"Oh, I fear you have fallen at the feet of your task. Here is the end of what was asked." - the third apparition interjects "Back then, but still further than you would have come. Not the best outcome, but not the worst."

The second apparition then interjects "That makes no sense to the right-thinking person." - and the first apparition follows with "What more would you ask of the maddened dead? It will suffice."

The party is then transported to the Lever Room (Spellhold Test) area.
