Baldur's Gate Wiki

Elven Holy Water is water that has been ritually sanctified in the name of elf deities by clerics. This imbues it with powerful abilities to combat the undead. It appears in both Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and in Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, as well as in the Enhanced Edition of both games, with a different origin and use in both games.

Description[]

Holy water blessed by the Elven god Rillifane. The water is specially made to combat vampires.

Gameplay[]

Besides its quest-related uses, Elven Holy Water also works as a regular consumable item that inflicts 4d8 piercing damage to Undead.

With the vial in the character's quick item slot, select the item and place a targeting cursor on the desired target. The item has a 40' range, and when released it sends a "Sparkle Blue" projectile No. 47 towards it.

The damage inflicted is considered nonmagical (so it ignores magic resistance and magic protections) and has a Power level of 0 (the best possible), so even a Lich would have trouble protecting against it, if it wasn't for the fact it does piercing damage, which makes Stoneskin block it (and most skeletal undead with 50% piercing resistance, for example, take half damage).

A Reflected Image or Mirror Image can fool the attack.

Shadows of Amn[]

In Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, elven holy water is a mandatory quest-related miscellaneous item that has to be used as part of the main quest The final battle with Bodhi quest.

Acquisition[]

After speaking to the elven leader Elhan at the beginning of Chapter 6 and beginning the quest The Elven City Requires My Aid, by speaking to him again and requesting aid in defeating Bodhi, he will give the player several vials of elven holy water and several Wooden Stakes.

Involvement[]

On both levels of the vampire hideout in the Lower Tombs and Bodhi's Lair, there are bloodbath pools feeding the resident vampires on that level with unholy power. By "clicking" on these pools, the player is given the option to pour holy water into the bath, negating the power of that level's vampires in different ways.

  • In the Lower Tombs: All vampires on that dungeon level are slowed and have their Strength reduced by 5 points (-5 Strength). (ref: SPIN818.spl)
  • In Bodhi's lair: Bodhi is slowed, loses 2 points of both Strength and Dexterity (-2 Strength, -2 Dexterity), takes 20 acid damage, and her Regeneration is negated. It also sets a global that removes the MINHP1.ITM item from her equipped items, making her vulnerable to several status effects and hit point loss "death". (Ref: SPIN 817.spl)
Note: Mod introduced vampires that do not include the C6WEAK.bcs script in their creature file are unaffected by this the bloodbath purification.

Throne of Bhaal[]

In Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, elven holy water is an optional quest-related miscellaneous item that is necessary to resolve The ghostly apparition questline taking place in the Saradush Prison.

Acquisition[]

Several vials of elven holy water can be purchased from the Temple of Waukeen (Saradush) via Sister Farielle.

Involvement[]

Elven Holy Water is necessary to sanctify a shallow grave leading to a rewarding outcome.
