Elhan is the commander of the elven forces defending the Underdark exit area, and what's left of the forces outside of Suldanessellar since its "disappearance".

Gameplay[]
After escaping the Underdark in Chapter 6, several elves will take Gorion's Ward and the party to see an elven general - and finally Elhan.
A series of probing questions will be asked, and answers given by the party will be assessed for veracity by elven sages who are skilled at analyzing truthful responses and identifying deceit.
Most likely, even if the party is giving sarcastic or begrudging responses, Elhan will have decided that the party is not an enemy of the elves, but rather seeking Jon Irenicus.
If Viconia DeVir is a party companion, there will be special dialogue presented and possibly a geas spell cast upon her in order to permit her to stay in the party. After all, the surface elves really do not trust the drow.
After much back and forth - Elhan will make it understood that to find Jon Irenicus, the city of Suldaessalar must be exposed from its magical hiding. This can only be accomplished by using the Rhynn Lanthorn device. Elhan has a pretty good idea that Bodhi has made off with it and fled the area.
The party is to continue tracking down and destroy Bodhi, and wrest the Lanthorn from her, and return it to Elhan. This is not optional and is required to continue the saga, although there is no timer limit placed on this task.
He will also furnish the party with elven holy water and wooden stakes to help with the task.
Elhan can spare no warriors to help the party and explains that the elves will not invade any areas outside of their territory. He advises that previous contacts of the party should be able to assist if needed.
The party's journal updates and records The Elven City Requires My Aid questline.
Note that for plot purposes, Elhan can't be killed (as evidenced by his MINHP1.ITM). It is pointless to attack the elves in this scenario, and frankly will gum up your ultimate game saga, so don't try it. There's plenty of opportunity for violent release ahead in the rest of the game.
Note about the geas[]
This geas accepted by Viconia seems not to actually implement anything specific in the game. It is more of a theatrical plot convention. However, if the party attacks any of the elves in this area, including Elhan, the PC will be killed by a scripted plot function, and it will be game over.
