The second subterranean level below Durlag's Tower is the Labyrinth Level One dungeon. The primary objective of this level is to solve the riddles of the four warders. They represent weaknesses of the warrior, as seen by Durlag. Once all four riddles have been solved a fight will follow and the wardstone needed to proceed to Labyrinth Level Two can be obtained from one of the corpses.

This level contains a lot traps (floor and container) and loot. Be aware that navigating this level without a thief with maxed detect trap skill will consume quite a bit of healing power. And sleeping in dungeons can be quite risky.

The Four Warders

The warders are standing around the four corners of the Lift that leads to level two as depicted here:

Although there is no required order to solve all four riddles, it is required that Love be spoken to last, as she will spawn the battle and has the wardstone to proceed to level two.

Avarice

Talk to Avarice. He offers a riddle to solve. Enter the treasure room and collect the Glittering Beljuril Gemstone. Return it to Avarice.

Fear

Talk to Fear. He offers a riddle to solve. Collect the Mallet Handle from a barrel in the lift chamber room. Collect the Mallet Head from the second library room. Take both items to the weapon forge room and click twice on the anvil. Take the Gong Mallet to the trophy room and click on the gong. Return and talk to Fear.

Love

Talk to Love. She offers a riddle to solve. Collect the Odd Looking Key from the treasure room. Enter the master bedroom and open the warded desk. Collect the Switch for an Engine. Collect the Grapes from the garment room. Enter the engine room and click twice on the switch panel on the gantry. Enter the wine press room and click twice on the press. You will obtain a Bottle of Wine. Return it to Love.

Pride

Talk to Pride. He offers a riddle to solve. Enter the circular reading room. Click on each of the four books. Cross the corridor to the sword room and Durlag's Pride will now be surrounded by a glowing field. The sword will talk to you. Return and talk to Pride.

Four Warders Battle

As soon as the last of the riddles has been solved, all four warders will transform into combatants. Spells such as Bless, Chant, Defensive Harmony, Haste and Protection From Evil help considerably. Fear is the only warder who doesn't have any weapons or other items on his body when he is killed. Collect the exit wardstone and click on the lift to enter level 2 of the dungeon.
