Doom is a 1st level priest spell. It impairs a target's THAC0 and saving throw values.
Description[]
“ | This spell causes a feeling of doom to overwhelm the target. For the duration of the spell, the target receives a +2 penalty to all their rolls, including THAC0 and Saving Throws. There is no Saving Throw for this spell. | ” |
Gameplay[]
The caster aims this spell toward a single creature, use the targeting cursor to select the desired target.
Upon completion of the spell casting, which has a lengthy casting time, a sparkling blue projectile speeds unerringly to the target creature and exposes it to the spell's effects.
A text will display <CASTER>: Casts Doom.
Assuming the targeted creature wasn't able to block this spell, their sprite will show a brief fade from color effect, as well as a sound effect is audibled - and a text will display, reading "Doomed".
A player character affected by the Doom spell will show an icon (No. 100) titled "Doom" on their portrait for the spell's duration.
This spell impairs the victim in two ways:
- All Saving throw values are penalized 2-points.
- THAC0 rolls are penalized by 2-points.
When the spell expires, a second sound effect audibles signifying the end of the Doom.
The Doom spell can potentially be blocked by Magic resistance, and a Spell Immunity: Alteration will negate it outright.
Additionally, any Spell protections type defense will stop it, such as Minor Spell Deflection or Minor Globe of Invulnerability.
The Doom effect can be removed from a victim with any applicable Dispel Magic effect.
Doom isn't cumulative with a second casting of the same spell, so they won't "stack" - although this spell is compatible with the wizard spell Greater Malison.
This spell is flagged as a "Hostile", and will make an enemy out of neutral creatures, as well as others in the vicinity.
Notes[]
- In the original Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal, this spell is cumulative with itself.
- It will not stack with Spirit Fire, as that spell uses the same status effect as Doom.

Trivia[]
The Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition ruleset has no priest spell titled "Doom", or one that instills a feeling of doom.
The nearest sort of equivalent spell could be the 2nd level divine spell Bane of Beshaba, and there is a dwarf only spell titled Doom Curse that is somewhat related to the idea of potentially impairing saving throws.
The PnP priest spell Bless is reversible and can instead be used to apply a "Curse" - which also penalizes attack rolls and saving throws against fear effects.
The Doom spell is an invention of the BG video game developers.
