The Domination spell enables the caster to control the actions of any creature.

Effects[]

The Domination spell enables the caster to control the actions of any creature while the spell is in effect. This control is maintained through a telepathic link between the caster and the victim. Unlike the 4th-level priest spell Mental Domination, the target has no option for release, even if made to do something against his morals. This effect can only be reversed by Dispel Magic. The target is allowed a Saving Throw vs. Spell with a -2 penalty to negate the effect.

Notes[]

  • The Amulet of Power, though not protecting from this spell, does prevent the status effect icon from being properly shown on a dominated party member's portrait.
  • This spell has similiarities to the level 4 priest spell Mental Domination, but the latter casts slightly faster and ignores the Elven/Half-Elven resistance to charm effects.

Gameplay[]

  • In Baldur's Gate and its Enhanced Edition, many characters, commoners and enemies alike, have hidden dialogues while charmed. You may manually initiate dialogue with them during the charm state by using the "Talk" function on them. These hidden dialogues are usually but simple and amusing quotes, but sometimes they do reveal more substantial clues. This feature is removed in the second game.
See Charmed for a complete list of characters with such dialog options.
  • Commencing aggressive actions towards the charmed creature ends the state.
  • Domination doesn't aggro neutral creatures if they successfully save vs. spell and resist the charm.
  • When Domination wears off, a previously neutral charmed creature will turn hostile. At least in Baldur's Gate II, the Nymph Cloak or the Ring of Human Influence can be used instead to charm neutral creatures in a non-hostile way.

The Domination spell enables the caster to control the actions of any one creature while the spell is in effect. This control is maintained through a telepathic link between the caster and the victim. Unlike the 4th level priest spell Mental Domination, the target has no option for release, even if made to do something against his morals. The target gets a saving throw vs. spell at -2 in order to avoid the effect.

Note:With the installation of this mod, the Domination Spell can also be removed with SR's Break Enchantment spell. When the spell duration is expired, the dominated creature will be hostile to the originator of the domination.
