- This page is about detecting illusions via a spell. For the thief's or Dark Moon monk's ability to do this, see Detect Illusion (skill).
The Detect Illusion spell will remove all non-party Illusion spells of 3rd level and below.
Description[]
“ | When cast at a point designated by the wizard, this spell will cancel all Illusion/Phantasm spells of 3rd level and lower in the area. Spells that are affected by this are Reflected Image, Invisibility, Mirror Image, and Non-Detection. It is important to note that the caster can control just who this spell affects. Therefore, it will affect only enemies of the caster. […] The target's Magic Resistance, if any, does not affect this spell. | ” |
Gameplay[]
The caster selects a point on the area of the map to aim this spell toward, using the targeting cursor to designate the center of the spell's area of effect.
The spell fires a projectile up to a 40' distance - the user will attempt to move into range if further way than that.
Once the spell is cast, the projectile rapidly launches and flies to the target point and affects all non-party creatures in the area of effect.
Any non-party illusions meeting the spell's definition that are present are cancelled/removed.
Illusions of the 4th level or greater aren't affected by this spell, for example Improved Invisibility, Shadow Door, Mislead, and Project Image etc.
Further, the caster might also end up cancelling spells on non-party creatures that were previously applied by the party, such as Spook or Deafness, so be careful about that.

This icon indicates content from the original Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn campaign.Baldur's Gate II:

This icon indicates content from the original Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal campaign. Although the original Baldur's Gate II description of the spell states a 20-ft. radius area of effect, it's actually 15 ft. The Enhanced Edition spell description is incorrect.
