Den of Thieves is a side quest available in Chapter Ten of Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear. It is obtained from General Stonehand, who asks Gorion's Ward to try and root out the budding black market in the Coalition Camp that she is certain has been the work of a thieves guild. She suggests starting by questioning the halfling merchant Waizahb.
Questioning Waizahb[]
Of course, Waizahb will deny having any involvement with such a group. The player can select one of several options; only the option “For your sake, I hope that’s not true.” is a guaranteed success to set up a meeting with Rhynwis. If they select the options “I don’t think so, and that’s a good thing.” or “I’ve not patience for your games.”, it will trigger a Charisma check or a Strength check, respectively; failure causes the halfling to flee and warn the thieves guild representative. If Gorion's Ward is a Wizard or a Sorcerer, they also have the unique option to bluff Waizahb by threatening to curse her, which is an automatic success.
If successful, she will reveal that Gorion's Ward needs to speak to Rhynwis, and will set up a meeting.
Talking to Rhynwis[]
Despite what General Stonehand says, questioning Waizahb is strictly optional; Gorion's Ward can simply speak to Rhynwis automatically. There are three options for talking to her.
Firstly, the player can threaten her by demanding she stop the thievery or pay the price. She will agree. The player can either attack her (she vanishes), ask for a cut of the profits (she will reveal the existence of a cache in the Underground River Entrance, containing Harold and minor loot), or demand that the guild assist the Coalition during the battle against the Shining Crusade (thieves make an appearance as allies during the Siege of the Camp quest).
Secondly, the player can ask to join the guild. She refuses, reveals she recognizes them as the Hero of Baldur's Gate, and promises that the guild will disband before vanishing.
Finally, the player can tell her outright that they want her to stop her operations. Her response varies. If Waizahb set up a meeting, options are presented as per threatening her. Otherwise, she simply agrees and vanishes.
Conclusion[]
Once Rhynwis has been spoken to, Gorion's Ward can return to General Stonehand. If they explain that they only saw the guild's leader, but leaned on her to aid the coalition, then the general will throw in a bonus Potion of Mind Focusing to her rewards. Otherwise, they get the standard rewards array.
General Stonehand offers 300 gold pieces for the job. The player can either ask for a little more (increases to 500 gold pieces), demand 3,000 gold pieces (the general will chastise them, but still give them 500 gold), or accept the 300 as sufficient payment (+1 Reputation).
