The Demilich is encountered in the Watcher's Keep – Crypt
Gameplay[]
The party can enter this crypt with one or more party members.
As soon as the party member transitions to this area the demilich will initiate a spell trigger that buffs itself with Protection From Energy.
The next move by the lich is typically to cast Demilich Howl, an area of effect spell that could expose multiple characters in this room to the potentially deadly effect.
The demilich will move towards party members who don't approach, usually the nearest one, and get into melee range and use its touch attack and cast spells at point blank range.
If the party conjures any creatures that are classified as "summoned", the creature will ReallyForceSpell cast a Death Spell, to banish them.
Following that, the demilich will cast a unique Imprisonment spell at the nearest enemy, and these repeat over and over, about every two rounds.
The undead spell caster can See the invisible, so stealth/invisibility cannot prevent it from detecting or targeting a character. It will however select the second, third and so forth target if any of those targets are under a berserk/enrage effect.
However, a Protection From Undead scroll can still provide protection, and the demilich can't target a party member under that effect.
The demilich can continue these spell casts until about 1-turn has transpired, then it might release a another Demilich Howl, and resume the Imprisonment spell casting cycle again.
This creature has no ability to remove protections from the party, nor can it heal itself.
Frankly, as long as a party member is protected by Spell Immunity: Abjuration, the creature can't do much except melee attack with its lich touch attack, which it is not very accurate with in terms of THAC0.
As this demilich is mostly impervious to all spells, due to its Power level immunity, the simplest method to destroy it is to strike it repeatedly with +4 weaponry until it is slain.
Due to its inherent 90% physical damage resistance, expect to inflict only 1-2 damage per hit.
Unfortunately, this demilich is not affected by any instant death effects, such as the Black Blade of Disaster or the Mace of Disruption, so just beat it down with anything on hand that can hit it.
Once the creature is felled, recover any loot desired, as well as an enormous sum of gold.
The sarcophagus also contains some valuables.
Notes[]
If the party leaves the crypt once the demlich has engaged with the party, there is a chance it will follow the party to the Githyanki Encampment area to continue the battle. It probably won't leave the Crypt while any other party members remain with it.

Mod content[]
The Sword Coast Stratagems mod makes major revisions to this creature, and the encounter.
First, entry into this crypt is changed. The party can still decide to enter the crypt with one or more party members, but once the characters transition into the space, no one else may enter the crypt, and no one may leave until the demilich is destroyed.
A text is displayed reading "A vast block of stone has slammed down across the exit.", this of course precludes any reinforcements or fleeing the area.
The demilich design is also revised, it is now a Necromancer, level 35, with 57 HP and 100% Magic resistance.
The creature has an innate casting speed factor which reduces spell casting time by 4, the same as afforded by wearing the Robe of Vecna.
This mod version of the demilich is a fully functional spell casting mage with an entire spell book of memorized spells of many varieties.
Even with a large arsenal of memorized spells, the demilich still retains the abilities of the unmodded creature and is scripted to use a more potent Demilich Howl and SCS's Demilich Trap the Soul innate spells in between other spell casting.
The player's installed component choices for SCS will affect some gameplay with this creature. The "More consistent Breach", and the selected difficulty level play a big part on how dangerous this creature will be.
On higher difficulties, expect multiple mage High-level class ability uses such as Improved Alacrity, Summon Dark Planetar, Energy Blades (wizard), Dragon's Breath (spell), and Comet.
The demilich will also have prepared Minor Sequencer, Spell Sequencer, and Spell Trigger to instantly deploy. The creature has the capability to strip away party defenses with Remove Magic, Spell Thrust, and more than one use of Breach and Spellstrike.
With the Spell Revisions mod installed alongside SCS, the party may find this creature requiring additional steps to dispel or to even target, due to use of the SR mod's spell versions.
If the Shadow Magic mod is installed, this creature has the "Nosferatu" tome in its inventory.
If the Afaaq the Djinni Companion mod is installed, the creature has the "Skull of the demi-lich' item in its inventory.
