Deafeating Yaga-Shura is a main quest acquired during Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal during chapter 8, as well as Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, same chapter.
Aquisition[]
This quest is introduced via dialogue with Melissan after completing the Dealing with Gromnir questline and slaying Gromnir Il-Khan in Gromnir's Hideout.
- Journal entry: Defeating Yaga-Shura
- Melissan has warned me that the fire giant Bhaalspawn is immune to all weapons and magic. Unless I can find some way to overcome his resistances, any attempt to destroy him is doomed to failure.
- Perhaps the secret to defeating him can be found in a swamp deep within the Forest of Mir, where Yaga-Shura was raised. It is also possible that a cult of fire giants in the Marching Mountains knows a way to nullify Yaga-Shura's power.''
Gameplay[]
This quest is tracked as progress is made in the quests tab in the Wards's journal.
When ready, travel from the Pocket Plane (area) and exit the portal and arrive in the North Forest - Rescue the merchants from Yaga-Shura's soldiers and perhaps do some trading with Karthis al-Hezzar. If desired, clear this area of marauding soldiers, then exit to the eastern side and select a travel destination from the World Map.
The game allows travel to Forest of Mir – The Temple or Marching Mountains - the optimal choice is the Temple, because information gained there will clarify the party's purpose, and is easier to understand what the goal is. However, this is a choice, and either area is an option.
The Temple[]
Travel to the haunted glade in the midst of a swamp, and explore the area, meet Gorion and deal with that encounter, destroy the undead skeletal bhaalists that will try and destroy the party, and finally speak with Nyalee the Witch of the Glade. She explains what she will do to make Yaga-Shura vulnerable to attack, and what she must have in return in order to do so.' A journal entry will register:
- Journal entry: Defeating Yaga-Shura
- I have encountered a witch by the name of Nyalee within the ruins of a Bhaalist temple in the Haunted Glade. Nyalee raised Yaga-Shura and taught him to remove his heart and keep it ablaze as the secret to his invulnerability. His heart must be extinguished in order to remove his power. Nyalee will do it, but she needs me to bring her his heart... as well as her own, which Yaga-Shura has stolen.
When ready, travel to the Marching Mountains.
Marching Mountains[]
Arrive at the foothills and lava flows of one of the mountain's volcanoes where Yaga-Shura has some kind of cave-lair within the very rock of the volcano itself. Battle through or avoid any defenders in the area and then locate the entrance to Yaga-Shura's Lair.
