Death Gaze is an innate attack "spell" that's used by the following demonic monsters: Glabrezu, Master of Thralls, Nabassu, Lea'liyl and Tanar'ri. The BG1 creature Aec'Letec uses a different version of the gaze attack, but the same projectile.
Gameplay[]
The creature releases a fast-moving projectile that targets a single creature in detection range, this is accompanied by an audibled sound effect.
The projectile exposes the target to the following effects:
- 1d8 Acid damage
- 1d8 Fire damage
- A potential Held effect lasting 5 rounds — a Saving throw versus Death is allowed to resist it.
Note that the damage portion of the gaze attack isn't blocked by Magic resistance, however the Held effect is subject to MR.
If a party member is held, the victim will be Helpless and immobile for 5-rounds.
The gaze's internal effects have no assigned spell Power level, are not assigned to any school of magic and have no secondary magic type - the result of this is that there really is no way to prevent or shield against the gaze, except for the Potion of Mirrored Eyes, which actually blocks the GAZE projectile.
