Daystar is an enchanted and magical longsword that can be found in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (and the EE), imported to Throne of Bhaal, and purchased in The Black Pits II: Gladiators of Thay.

Acquisition[]

Shadows of Amn and EE[]

In the Athkatla City Gates area, inside the Crooked Crane Inn, a secret room is inhabited by a Lich. Its tomb contains the sword.

Black Pits II[]

It can be purchased from the Weapon Merchant.

Effects[]

The sword has a +2 base enchantment and is extra effective against the Undead and enemies of evil alignment.

Description

Daystar

Whether created specifically for use in the service of Torm or appropriated at some point in the long history of the church, Paladins of the Loyal Fury have made good use of Daystar in their battles against evil undead. Through magic or blessing it is empowered with the Sunray, a force of pure life energy so potent that it slays both living and unliving.

  • Because the additional("double") damage vs. Undead is of magical type the sword remains effective against Undead with physical damage resistances such as Skeleton Warriors, Mummies or Demiliches. In other words, the sword inflicts an extra 1d8 +4 points of magical energy damage on undead creatures.
  • The sword also inflicts an extra +2 slashing damage to creatures of evil alignment. If the Undead creature is evil (most are) then this damage is added to the special magic energy damage inflicted.
  • The save penalty from Invokers applies to this weapon's charge ability, meaning that Invoker/Fighters and Invoker/Thieves can use this weapon to great effect (they're more likely to blind enemies and to outright kill undead with Sunray).
  • As the sword casts an actual Sunray spell, the casting time is not instant but the same as the priest spell (4). The sword's casting level is 10, regardless of what experience level the wielder is. As such, the Daystar Sunray spell will be the lowest possible in the spell's scaling range—cleric level 14: an additional 14d6[1] points of magical damage against undead (Save vs. Spell or suffer a further 1000 + 14d6[2] magical damage, magic resistance negates).
