This area is technically part of Spellhold.

This chamber will be a location that the party is transferred to by the asylum Apparition, depending on how the party answered certain questions as part of the tests and dialogue replies presented in the Escaping the asylum quest.

The party is transported to this area on the western side of a rectangular room. Unlike some other testing rooms encountered before, there are no obvious denizens or hostile enemies seen. There is nothing ahead as far as the eye can see.

The party can send a member forward or all can travel to the opposite end toward the eastern side, and search for a doorway or clue.

If the party just remains in place - within about two rounds the walls in the center of the room will smash together. Any caught between the walls will suffer a crushing damage attack, and then the walls return to their original position. This crushing trap will repeat on a timed interval as long as there are party members on the western side of the chamber.

A swift move across the central section of the room toward the eastern side will disable the trap and everyone will be safe from further crushing attacks.

When the party makes it to the eastern side, the Apparition makes another appearance and addresses the party:

"A simple task. You are quick of foot and respond well. I applaud, though my approval means little. Tell me, were you fearful of the trap? Did you hesitate? My queries are to clarify your state of mind. Answer true and clear."

The party now has the opportunity to select a reply from several dialogue choices, as follows:

"Are you mad, specter? That trap was vicious! By what right did you endanger me?" - the Apparition replies "Your demands are unproductive. I must ask that you respond in a helpful manner while you are evaluated. You have no more choice than I. The spells that guide me have been in place for years. If you have issue with them, you should take it up with the builder. In the meantime, your path is harder." - The Apparition transfers the party to the Sahuagin Room (Spellhold Test).
"I was fearful, but not to the point of faltering. I had to proceed, as you have said." - the Apparition replies "You display acceptance of circumstance and have dealt with it as best you could. A good sign, as far as I am capable of judging. The path becomes smoother to reflect your state. Smooth, but not without all danger." - The Apparition transfers the party to the Fire Room (Spellhold Test).
"Why don't you wander through it yourself and see how fearful it is?" - The Apparition replies "Your demands are unproductive.
"An interesting contraption. Would that I had more time to study it." - The Apparition replies "You display acceptance of circumstance and have dealt with it as best you could. A good sign, as far as I am capable of judging." - The Apparition transfers the party to the Fire Room (Spellhold Test).
