Baldur's Gate Wiki

A Cow is a non-hostile farm animal encountered throughout all of the Baldur’s Gate Saga. They can often be found around various human settlements, on farms, or in the presence of certain NPC's. Two cows are given names and are involved in side quests: Nessa in Candlekeep and Arabelle in the Lonely Peaks.

After multiple conversation attempts, cows will respond with a funny quote.

Ouch. I mean moooo.

Most cows never get hostile (they remain neutral even when attacked) and killing them does not result in reputation loss of aggroing nearby characters, with the exception of Nessa, which will turn hostile as well as make Dreppin and other Candlekeep residents hostile.

Cows can also be summoned as a result of a Wild Mage's wild surge or when using the Summon Cow easter egg spell, and hurled at an opposing enemy, where they explode in a massive fireball shock wave that causes severe Crushing damage but not Fire damage.

Creature Types[]

Most cows found in the games are of the COW.cre or NCOW.cre type. Arabella is given the COWH.cre code. The AMCOW.cre is encountered in Amkethran and is the only creature type that is mobile.
