Note: Aside from being only usable by Valygar, there are class and alignment restrictions. For example, wearing the Helmet of Opposite Alignment can make him unable to equip and/or use the item.
Corthala Family Blade is an enchanted and magical katana +2 which can only be used by Valygar Corthala, as long as he has at least 17 strength, 18 dexterity, 14 wisdom and 16 constitution.
In addition to the usual 2-point bonuses to THAC0, damage and speed factor, this +2 enchanted blade inflicts a bleeding effect with each cut. (It is technically a Poison effect.) Finally, it also grants a 2-point AC bonus vs slashing attacks.
Valygar has this weapon equipped when he joins the party.
