The Copper Coronet is a large tavern and inn in Athkatla's Slums. It can be used as an access point to the slum district sewers.
Services[]
- Bernard the innkeeper, and old friend of Jaheira, can provide peasant or merchant rooms to sleep in. He also has a small variety of beers to choose from: Bitter Black Ale, Amnian Ale, Shadowdark Ale, Suz-Ale and Golden Sands - drinking these ales and beers will give the imbiber a chance to hear various rumors. Too many drinks at one session may result in the Intoxicated status effect. The more expensive the drink, the better chance of generating an interesting rumor (and more likely to be factual).
- Frankie is in charge of welcoming the spectators to the pit fights. You can watch a fight between a slave gladiator dwarf and a troll. The dwarf has a dagger. Guess what the outcome might be.
- Madame Nin offers to let you spend the night in the back rooms with a young human lady named Cominda, a young attractive petite halfling lass named Kerstia, or an effeminate crossdressing tart named Jenthan, depending on your character's sex.
- Surly organizes dog fights in the common room's small pit. Gorion's Ward can bet on the dog fights. You can get rid of Surly later if you dislike this operation, especially if the tavern changes ownership.
Containers[]
There a various barrels, chests, tabletops, shelves and other nooks with potential treasures in them. Some have nothing, others have random treasures. It's yours for the taking if you can find them and are inclined to help yourself. Some may be locked. Some might be trapped too.
Creatures[]
Companions[]
Nalia de'Arnise, Anomen Delryn, Korgan Bloodaxe, and Hexxat can all be recruited here, though for Nalia, Korgan, and Hexxat you will have to go through a sub-quest first. Also, if you dismissed either Minsc, Imoen or Edwin, they can all be found in the tavern if you want to re-hire them. Yoshimo can also be here if you dismissed him, but only before Chapter 4 due to plot reasons.
Copper Coronet patrons and gameplay[]
There are several patrons including commoners, noblemen and various drunks in the tavern public bar and also in the rear/upstairs "exclusive" areas. All have dialogue if you engage. Some have specific lines and opinions depending on who is in your party. There are lines for Viconia, Anomen Delryn, Jan Jansen and others. One particular drunk (a "fat man" animation") has quite a long and burp filled tale about his recent mugging assault and heroic defense. Don't miss it! Try speaking with everyone you can. There are clues, nonsense, folly, and insight available.
For first time players, speaking with everyone you can in here is the best way to go. Enough clues are provided for you to figure out how to get into the back rooms of the Copper Coronet. So, no spoilers here about that. The wiki is sure that you can crack that nut and solve this by playing the game.
Upon first visit to the Copper Coronet, a local bully named Amalas accompanied by two other toughs (or "Ruffians"), will address the protagonist. If the PC is a female the volley of antagonistic insults will be different and quite annoying. Amalas is trying to goad the PC into the fighting pit for a fight to the finish, most likely to prove his prowess and also for some side bet wagering opportunity. The PC can agree and have a one on one fight or try and deescalate the situation with various dialogue choices. However, if Minsc is in the party and with a female PC, this is not going to end peacefully, as the Ranger won't stand for the bullying and attacks the ruffians.
Anomen will speak to the party if you get close enough to him. He can join the party if desired. Anomen has his own quests if in the party.
Hexxat can be found near the staircase to the second floor. She'll initiate a call for help, trying to get the party to assist with visiting a tomb and promise of great treasure. She's behaving strangely, and her speaking ability seems unnatural. You may take her into the party as a companion if desired, or leave it alone until later, or never. This is BG2EE Content only, for those who are still playing the original game.
Korgan Bloodaxe is also in the tavern. The party must initiate conversation with him. He can also join the party as a companion. Korgan has his own quest if in the party.
Nalia de'Arnise will approach the party when she sees the group. She'll ask for assistance with a problem. If desired, she can join the party as a companion, or be sent ahead and met later, or the party can temporarily decline speaking with her until later (or never). She is the only way to get the The de'Arnise Keep has been Invaded quest, and that quest is also the only way to obtain the Ruling the de'Arnise Keep and Lands stronghold quests.
Lord Jierdan does not initiate conversation, but he does announce out loud to anyone within a certain range that he has an offer if the party wishes to hear it. If so, initiate dialogue with him.
Yarin located in a room upstairs has special dialogue if Yoshimo is in the party and he speaks with him. Give it a try.
Tiana is on the tavern floor. She's angry and looking for her husband Rumar. If you find Rumar and his clandestine fling Priss, you can then let Tiana know that you spotted her husband upstairs. Tiana will then march upstairs and straight over to Rumar and Priss. A fight will break out between the two women. If the party intervenes and helps kill Tiana there is a XP reward, and some rich Random treasure. If the party helps slay Priss, that results in a reputation loss for an innocent. Or the party can just watch the encounter and hear all the delicious dialogue.
Salvanas is smooth talking character. Special dialogue is available for any female party members that speak to him individually, such as the PC, Jaheria, Aerie etc. It is unique for each person, and humorous as well.
Madame Nin is located upstairs. Speak with her to hire some temporary love. If someone in the party does, then speak with the companion to get insight into their status, and it will add more to the impressions that the Copper Coronet is engaging in some morally questionable activities. There are also additional girls upstairs, already with clients. Speaking with them add even more information to consider. If any of the companions complain that you are asking too many questions, Madame Nin may ban you from further paid companionship. If Yoshimo is in the party, there is special dialogue with the girls, and some humorous lines if he speaks with one of the other patrons with his hired companion. After the Free Hendak and the slaves quest is complete, Madame Nin will abscond from the Copper Coronet.

People involved[]
- Portraits from Portraits Portraits Everywhere
- Installation of the Sword Coast Stratagems mod makes some minor changes to select creature scripts, an example is Tabitha the Lioness and the Beast Master. Watch out for the bully Amalas and his two toughs. They are seriously better at fighting than the unmodified game. Better Attacks per round, THAC0 and damage than the unmodified game. You could die here, so do not take them for granted.
- The Dungeon Crawl mod begins in the Copper Coronet if installed.
- The Quest Pack mod adds three side-quests with Copper Coronet involvement, including "The Tragedy of Besamen" and "Intrigue at the Copper Coronet" components. Additionally. it offers the Further Slaver Involvement. This component allows additional options in dealing with the slavers around the city. It is now possible to sell the orphan in the Graveyard District to Lehtinan. If you know he’s a slaver, you can make him an offer once you’ve encountered Risa. You may try to extort the slavers, threatening to warn the guard if they do not pay up; success is not guaranteed. New dialogue options should be apparent in the encounter with the slavers and corrupt guards at night in the Slums.
- The Check the Bodies (CtB) mod "Helping Melynda the Mute" component begins in the Copper Coronet.
- The Unfinished Business for BG2 mod has some interactions and content taking place in the Copper Coronet.
- The Assassination mod will begin soon after the beginning of Chapter 2, through dialogue with Bernard. It will be up to you to pursue the clue given to explore the questline.
- The Loron's Return (Ajoc's minimod restored) mod is introduced to your party early in chapter 2 by Brus, who appears in the Copper Coronet. Brus tells you that a well-to-do gentleman needs assistance traveling outside Athkatla, and needs to hire some guards for protection. Brus gives you the contact location if you wish to try a new adventure and the opportunity to earn some gold.
