Disambiguation icon This page is about the priest version of the spell. For the wizard version, see Confusion (wizard).

The Confusion spell clouds the judgement of creatures, instilling profound indecision and the inability to act reasonably. Any creature affected by the spell will either run around uncontrollably, go berserk randomly attacking close-by enemies, or stand still doing nothing. Note that the spell description talks about wandering creatures who will move away from the caster, but a confused creature who has gone berserk instead may stay close to the caster and continue attacking, and might even kill the caster while still under the effect of the spell.

Description[]

This spell causes confusion in one or more creatures within the area, creating indecision and the inability to take effective action. All creatures within the area of effect are allowed Saving Throws vs. Spell with a -2 penalty. Those successfully saving are unaffected by the spell. Those who fail their Saving Throws will either go berserk, stand confused, or wander about for the duration of the spell.
The spell lasts for 1 round for every two levels of the caster. Wandering creatures move as far from the caster as possible according to their most typical mode of movement (characters walk, fish swim, bats fly, etc.). Any confused creature that is attacked perceives the attacker as an enemy and acts according to its basic nature.

Gameplay[]

See the Wizard spell article for gameplay notes, as the same general discussion is applicable to the Priest version.

Spell Revisions mod has removed the divine spell Confusion from the game. It is replaced by the spell described below:

Chaos
Level: 7
School: Enchantment
Sphere: Chaos
Range: Long
Duration: 1 turn
Casting Time: 7
Area of Effect: 30’ radius
Saving Throw: Special

This spell allows the caster to create a sphere of chaotic magic. All enemies within the area affected by the casting of this spell must make a saving throw vs. spell at -4 for every round that they remain in the sphere, and if the save is failed one of the following random effects occurs: the target goes berserk, is confused, is paralyzed, is rendered unconscious, or flees in panic.

Note: This spell is available only to Cleric/Paladin classes.
