Cloakwood Mine level 2 is the second of four levels of the ancient mine that lies below the Cloakwood Mines area which is accessible during the events of Baldur's Gate.
On this level of the mine are three guard rooms and a dining room for the Guards, a kitchen, storage rooms and prison cells.
Places[]
- Guard Rooms — These are the first two rooms encountered upon entering the level, with the first manned by two Swordsman guards and, after traveling down a short hallway, a second room that's manned by a Bowman guard and a Swordsman guard. A third room is located west of the dinning hall and contains two Swordsman guards along with the entrance point to Level 3 of the mine.
- Prison Cells — A group of five cells are located straight ahead past the first guard room and contain three slaves. Their voices ask for help, but their dialog asks to leave them alone. Five more cells are located in the southern section of the level that's reachable through the dining hall, or through a very long hallway located along the entire southeastern side of the level, which is accessible behind secret doors and guarded by two Ghasts. It is here where the slave Rill and Lawful Good Dwarven Fighter/Cleric and potential companion Yeslick are found. Give Rill 100
to evacuate the slaves from the mine for extra rewards later.
- Storage Rooms — Southeast from the entrance are four rooms with empty crates and a guard who will "tell you everything" if you spare his life. Everything isn't very much, and probably nothing you don't already know. Just to the north of these storage rooms is a weapons room that contains an empty stack of shelves.
- Dining Hall — Somewhat centered in the middle of the level, it is accessible either by following the short zig-zag hallway northwest of the storage rooms or by sneaking in through the kitchen via the very long hallway located along the entire southeastern side of the level. Beware that the short hallway contains two traps on the floor. This room is a hive of enemies with five Swordsman guards, four Bowman guards, two Blacktalon Elite and the mage Hareishan all ready for a fight.
- Kitchen — Located adjacent to the dining hall. A female cook is encountered here but she has no viable information to offer up. — "I really like all of ya. We should have a little private shag party, right here in me kitchen." (charmed)
The chest of drawers near the cook is locked(40) and empty. The other chest of drawers is unlocked and empty.
Side quests[]
Gameplay[]
- One way to beat the main hall — with slideshow: (Pic no 1) Have one of the party equipped with the Whispers of Silence go scouting ahead stealthed or invisible (from the side secret door) and then have another party member cast Sleep after taking good aim at the center of the room — a Wand of Sleep could also be used. The caster should try to stay as far back as possible so as not to be seen — in case s/he's seen by some nearby guards, they'll probably fall asleep before reaching him/her though. (Pic no 2) This tactic can work pretty well for incapacitating a large part of your opponents in the game, especially when an Enchanter like Xan casts this spell. Of course, this can be repeated depending on the results of the first casting. Or it can be accompanied by other useful spells like Web, Fireball, Silence, 15' Radius, but simply one Sleep casting can prove to be enough. Last time I couldn't resist and used a Wand of Lightning — it was more deadly but less effective than Sleep overall. — Hazif (talk)
- It's not needed to attack the inhabitants of the central room in order to proceed with the main quest. If the party goes all the way down the secret corridor until they find the secret door to Yeslick's and Rill's cells, then they have to unlock a door and there are only two guards who stand in the last room between the party and the exit to Level 3. They miss on XP and loot from the big battle this way, though. — Hazif (talk)
