Cloak of Reflection bestows the wearer 100% resistance to electrical damage, as well as reflecting/bouncing some damage effect sources back to the originator.

When this cloak is worn, a white colored magical energy disc is rendered underfoot, and an icon is displayed (No. 27) titled "Protection From Electricity" on their portrait.

The cloak has a weight of 3 pounds, and the item can be found during Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn.

Description[]

Cloak of Reflection: Vorn Druidslayer crafted this cloak and used it with great success in his campaign to eliminate the druids from all the woods south of Baldur's Gate. His campaign ended abruptly when he encountered a flock of wyverns, who were attracted by the cloak's sheen. They killed Vorn and used the cloak to cover their nest, serving to protect their young during electrical storms.

Gameplay[]

The cloak's "Equipped Abilities" description isn't technically correct, as its claim to "Reflects all electrical damage back to the source" is not always true.

This cloak provides the wearer with two "always on" protective powers:

  • Set's Electricity damage resistance to 100%.
  • Bounces the impact effects and some projectiles back at their source.

The cloak responds to 10 separate projectiles associated with lightning/electricity, and if they strike the cloak wearer, the projectile and impact effect is bounced back at the attacker source (there may be a short to moderate delay).

All traditional "lightning bolt" type projectiles in the game are eligible to cause a bounce effect, as well as the Lightning Bolt Ray from a Gauth, or a Chain Lightning and the Call Lightning spell.

However, some electricity damage dealing projectiles/sources won't reflect, for example the Bolt of Lightning crossbow ammunition, or the damage dealt by a weapon such as Crom Faeyr.

But even so, the cloak wearer is 100% resistant to electricity damage regardless of any chance to bounce it back at the attacker.

Notes[]

While the description reads "reflection", implicating it just acts in similar manner as a wall and redirects the bolt, it duplicates (sort of) the bolt of electricity, making it a powerful potential offensive item in closed quarters if the party is well protected.

The replicated projectile will first seek out the original attacker, even if attacker moves around. This allows a clever means to expose other targets in the reflected bolt's path if maneuvered properly - however this may take some practice by the player before getting desired and consistent results. In case it's not used wisely, it might reflect powerful electrical damage onto other party members and/or innocent people, bringing undesired consequences.
