Cloak of Fear is a 4th level priest spell that creates a momentary aura of fear around the caster.

Description[]

Cloak of Fear empowers the caster to radiate a personal aura of fear out to a 15-ft. radius. All other characters and creatures within this aura must roll a successful Saving Throw vs. Spell or run away in panic for 4 rounds. Party members are immune to the effects, although the aura of fear may still disturb them.

Gameplay[]

Enemy creatures in the AoE are exposed to the Panic status effect.

Compared to the 2nd level wizard spell Horror, Cloak of Fear has shorter range (none vs 40 ft.), smaller area of effect (15 ft. vs 30 ft. radius), slower casting (6 vs 2), and shorter duration of effect (4 vs 10 rounds). The only advantage is that it can bypass Minor Globe as it's a higher-level spell.

The spell is flagged as a "Hostile" spell but its fear radiating power doesn't illicit a reaction from neutral creatures.

Spell Revisions mod has changed this divine spell, revising its spell school, casting time, area of effect, spell effects and duration. See below for description:
Cloak of Fear
Level: 4
School: Conjuration
Sphere: Charm
Range: Personal
Duration: 1 turn
Casting Time: 1
Area of Effect: 6’ radius
Saving Throw: Special

Cloak of Fear empowers the caster to radiate a personal aura of fear out to a 6’ radius. All enemies not immune to fear within this aura suffer -2 penalty to attack rolls, and each round they must roll a successful saving throw vs. spell or run away in panic for 1 round. Party members are immune to the effects of the aura.

Note: Spell is usable by all Divine magic spell casting classes
Note:The SR spell versions now allows the caster to radiate this fear effect for one turn, affecting enemies in close range. Part of the spell has no saving throw and will debilitate the enemies attack rolls. A saving throw vs. panic is needed each round exposed. This spell is now much more useful than the original version.

Notes[]

  1. The in-game description lists this as "The caster".
