This page is specifically about clerics in Baldur's Gate. See Cleric for this class in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition.

Clerics are adventuring priests of various deities who are able to perform divine magic due to their faith in a patron deity (or, in some cases, more than one).

In game, clerics are one of the four classes who are able to heal others and one of the three classes which can cast priest spells. They can wear all kinds of armor, just like warriors except mages robes, but their ethos prohibits them from using weapons and missiles with sharp points & edges and start with two weapon skill points fewer. Clerics are at many points identical with paladins which can use more weapons and may become more skilled with weapons, but they have only one alignment and race to choose from. Cleric is the priest class which can be used very frequently in dual and multi-class combinations. This class is available to all races.

Ability Scores[]

Ability Score Min. requirement Max. requirement
Strength 3 18
Dexterity 3 18
Constitution 3 18
Wisdom 9 18
Intelligence 3 18
Charisma 3 18

Note: For the information of this table the human race was used, because they have no character bonunes/penalties related to race and therefore act like a 'neutral'. For other races this may be slightly different. See Ability Scores for more information.

Turn undead[]

Priest & paladins have the ability turn undead creatures. When this mode is activated and the undead creatures are in range of the character, there is a possibility that the undead creature(s) will stop attacking its target and run away from the character until the effect is worn off. Whenever the priest or paladins gains a level, this mode will become more powerful. Good-aligned priests and paladins may use this mode to destroy the undead instantly while evil-aligned can use it to control the undead for a limited amount of time. After the duration of the effect ends, the undead will become hostile to the party.

Priest spells[]

Clerics are able to use the following spells from the priest spellbook. Clerics cannot use level 5 spells in Baldur's Gate (unlike druids, who need less experience to reach the higher levels).
