Note: You must complete this quest within time limits if you want to keep Cernd in the party. After Cernd complains that he must seek his wife, the party has ten days to visit his home in Waukeen's Promenade, or he will leave the party for good.

Cernd's Child is a companion quest which starts when you return to Athkatla from Trademeet with Cernd in your party. The quest will not trigger without him, obviously.

Gameplay[]

If you've killed Faldorn and you have Cernd in the party, then shortly after entering any district in Athkatla, the party will be approached by Igarol, Cernd's former neighbor, who'll mention that Cernd's wife had a child nine months after he departed to follow his call for nature. Igarol has some strong opinions about Cernd's abscence, and he and Cernd will have a lively exchange. At the end of dialogue, Cernd says "I thank you, Igarol, even though this news is most troubling. I must speak with Galia and tell her... tell her my thoughts.". Cernd will now want to visit his home in Waukeen's Promenade to find his wife..

When the party visits Waukeen's Promenade and moves to enter Cernd's former home, which is on the western side of the promenade, a beggar named Catis is within, apparently as a squatter, and will volunteer that Fennecia, his former servant and Nanny, may know the whereabouts of his wife. Cernd discovers that his home is unoccupied by his wife. The party must find out if Cernd's former servant and Nanny know where his wife is.

Enter the residence to speak to Fennecia in her home marked on your map, which is also in the promenade. Cerd will eventually say to Fennecia - "Fennecia? Please, I have come to speak with Galia. Is she here? Our old home is deserted." She will tell Cernd to get out of her house, apparently, she is offended by Cernd's lack of support for his wife and child. Fennecia insists that Cernd leave.

After moving Cernd out of the house, talk to Fennecia again. She will be more forthcoming with information now and tell you that Cernd's wife stayed with a noble named Deril and that she died under suspicious circumstances. She will also tell you that Cernd's child is in Deril's home. The party is going to have to investigate further and pay a visit to this estate.

Visit the Government District and then move to the Deril Estate, and when ready enter the doorway. Soon after, Cernd threatens the servant, Glut (a golem) - and Deril will appear (killing Glut for interrupting him).

  • If you tell Cernd to accuse Deril of Galia's murder then Cernd threatens Deril.
    • If you tell Cernd to "get him" then the entire party attacks Deril for 26,000 XP. Lagole Gon, Deril's Lich friend, will not join in the fight at all unless attacked, so you may choose to involve him in the fight for extra 26,000 XP, or not.
    • If you tell Cernd that he's on his own - then only Cernd battles with Deril, who easily kills Cernd (you cannot resurrect him). Deril leaves, with Cernd's child, meaning you cannot finish the quest. The adventure is over.
  • If you tell Cernd that you'll back him if he threatens Deril - then Deril sees that resistance is unlikely to work, and eventually hands over the child to you.
  • If you tell Cernd that "all is lost" - then only Cernd fights Deril, who easily kills Cernd (you cannot resurrect him). Deril leaves, with Cernd's child, meaning you cannot finish the quest.
  • If you tell Cernd that you can beat Deril - then Deril attacks. You can also battle Lagole Gon at the same time by attacking the lich in some manner, as described above.

Aftermath[]

If Lagole Gon is alive, then he gives you Cernd's Baby. If you killed Lagole Gon you can take Cernd's Baby from his corpse. If you threatened Deril, then he gives you Cernd's Baby.

  • 20,000 XP
  • 50,000 XP for Cernd

Cernd (if he is still alive) will leave the party and take the child to the Druid Grove, asking you to meet him there.

Travel to the Druid Grove and enter the Druid cave - Cernd leaves his baby to be raised by the druids. He will offer his services to the party once again. You may take him into the party or leave him in the grove, as the party wishes. The party could return later and ask him to join further on into the saga.
