Celestial Fury is a unique katana +3 that can be obtained from a specific encounter in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and the Enhanced Edition game version.
Description[]
“ | Many centuries ago, a trumpet archon named Chin Yi fell in love with a mortal man in Shou Lung and swore to protect him from enemies should he ever ride to war. When that time came, however, Chin Yi's patron goddess Kwan Ying forbade her to intervene, not wishing to contribute to the bloodshed. When Chin Yi's beloved was cut down by a yuan-ti warlord, her grief was terrible and her wrath immediate: Ignoring Kwan Ying's warnings, she flew onto the battlefield and took up her beloved's katana, using the blade to cut down the warlord and all those who served him. She continued the slaughter of the yuan-ti army until Kwan Ying herself appeared before her, arms open and eyes full of sympathy. "If it will stop this slaughter, I will ease your pain and end your suffering."
"I do not wish to end my suffering," replied Chin Yi. "I wish for my fury to sound throughout the ages, now and forever." Wanting to help her servant, but not wishing to unleash such powerful fury on the world, Kwan Ying bound Chin Yi's spirit to the blade of the man she had failed to protect, and then hid the weapon in a warrior's tomb. The tomb was later infiltrated and the weapon stolen, and although Chin Yi's cries could no longer be heard through the steel of the blade, her vengeance was as brutal as ever. |

Gameplay[]
The weapon strikes a +3 enchanted item.
It inflicts 1d10+3 points of Slashing damage.
Each successful hit exposes the target to a Stun effect unless that is negated by a Saving throw vs. Spell. If the save is failed, the target is stunned for one round. The stun effect is not blocked by Magic resistance or Spell Protections such as Globe of Invulnerability or Spell Deflection. If the target is affected by the stun, the combat log will display "Stunned" and a 3D graphic effect (SPFLSRIN) will play over the target. The katana's description notes this ability as "Booming Thunder", however the combat log won't display this term anywhere.
Additionally. each hit on a target has a 5% probability of applying 20 Electricity damage to the target as well. This is non magical elemental damage and can't be blocked or prevented by anything, however protection from electricity damage type can mitigate it. The katana's description notes this as a "Shocking Blow" ability - but the combat log won't display this term anywhere.
The blade has two abilities that can be selected from the wielder's item use button. Each ability can be used once per day - and they recharge after a standard 8-hour resting cycle:
- Lightning Strike: Hit target must save vs. Spell or be stunned for 1 round. This item ability is similar to a Lightning Bolt spell, however, the actual innate spell applied to a target within 100' range is SPIN714.spl. It can apply up to a 10d6 Lightning Bolt to a single target in range. A saving throw vs. spell will half the damage. This lightning bolt can be blocked by magic resistance and any spell protection that can stop 3 Power level spell, such as Minor Globe of Invulnerability.
- Blindness: Once per day the user can direct this spell effect at a single target creature within a 40' range. A projectile (No. 115) is directed at the target creature and upon contact will expose it to a Blindness effect. A saving throw vs. Spell will negate it. A failed save will blind the creature for 2-rounds. The blindness effect has a Power level of 1, and thus can be deflected or stopped by any form of spell protection, such as Minor Spell Deflection. It does however bypass magic resistance. If the spell works, the combat log will display "Blinded" and a lighting effect, color fade and sound effect will render.
Note[]
Baldur's Gate I & II: Enhanced Editions
This icon indicates content from all Enhanced Editions of the Baldur's Gate games. May situationally encompass Siege of Dragonspear and The Black Pits I & II content as well. Despite being called "Lightning Strike", this ability works similarly to a level 10+ Lightning Bolt (the in-game log even calls it "Lightning Bolt"), bouncing on walls, being treated as a level 3 spell and so on. It's also considered an Invocation/Evocation for the purposes of Mage kit spell school specialization.
