This category is used for all modifications, short: mods of the games which are not from official sources. Mods can add new content, change some content already existing, fix bugs and restore content removed from the release version of the games or give you new ways to enjoy the games. Many older Mods from the early days of BG modding have been refined and adapted/reconfigured for use for EE games. Some of these nostalgic Mods could not realistically be adapted to work with the newer game engine, sadly. Mods being developed now are mostly directed for the EE game versions, so be aware that not much new content is being developed for the basic game any longer. Time marches on as they say.
Mods are completely optional and it's recommended to finish the game at least once in an unmodded form before adding them, as they may change the gameplay experience for the better or the worse.
Mods and this Wiki: This wiki is not the source of any Mods, and does not promote use of any Mod over any other Mods. As the Fandom Wiki is a community based collective of fans, we encourage content added to the Wiki for use by all. A Mod Developer/Author, or Maintainer of an older Mod may add content about their Mod to this wiki. Ensure any link to a Mod is categorized and that the link is the actual proper place for information about it to be accessed by an interested fan. It could be, for instance, a gateway page explaining what the Mod is about and how to install it. This wiki's mod pages are a convenience feature and for information to link a fan to the Mod's information page. A fan of a Mod can also do this, and link to a Mod they want other fans to be aware of, or try out. Fans may also make comments about the Mod in the Comment/Discussion section at the bottom of the Mod's page. Mod's are developed by fans, for use by fans, and are available for free to try by fans. No Mod or product requiring payment is permitted to be linked to this Wiki, and if found will be removed. The BG Fandom Wiki Moderator has the right to remove and or make an edit about a Mod if information is warranted regarding any Mod that is potentially unethical, misleading, false, or detrimental to fans of the wiki. This will be decided on a case by case basis.
