Elven chain mail is a type of very light armor.
It weighs between 5 and 15 lb, requires a strength of 5 to wear it and provides a base armor class of 5. It has the same basic protection modifiers as regular chain mail: a bonus of 2 against slashing, but also a penalty of 2 against crushing attacks. The lower weight and the craftsmanship make it possible to be worn by thieves, fighter/mages and bards who still will be allowed to cast spells or perform their shadowy abilities (with slight penalties, however, see below). Regardless of this, elven chain mail can't be worn by the specialized kensai and archer, along with druids, monks and plain mages, as well as sorcerers.
Thieves, Rangers and Bards receive a penalty to their skills while wearing this armor, as seen by their shared equipped abilities:
- Open Locks: -5%
- Find Traps: -5%
- Pick Pockets: -20%
- Move Silently: -10%
- Spellcasting is not disabled
