Call Woodland Beings is a 4th level priest spell only usable by druid and shaman classes. It will summon forth a spellcasting nymph to aid the spell caster.
Description[]
“ | This spell summons forth a nymph to assist the party. The nymph has several priest spells at her disposal and will use them in the best interests of the party (these include Mental Domination, Confusion, and Mass Cure). She will remain under the caster's control until slain or the spell's duration expires. | ” |
Gameplay[]
The caster designates a spot on an area map where the summoned nymph will appear, using the targeting cursor to select the point of entry.
The spell casting sequence takes several seconds and includes a special 3D graphic "gate" from which the woodland being - the Nymph, appears on the map.
This nymph is a controlled creature and is subject to the game's rules and restrictions for summoned creatures, including how may be allowed by the party on any given area map at one time.
A nymph can't interact with objects, containers, open or close doors, or clear the fog of war - it also can't transition with the party to a different area map.
A nymph will disappear from the area map when the spell duration expires, and if killed will leave a corpse behind.
A Death Spell will destroy this creature, as will exposure to a Death Fog.
This creature is best utilized by managing its actions, directing what it does, which spells to cast, what to target, and where to move.
If left to its own internal AI script, the nymph will perform very basic actions and might not cast the desired spells or do what the player expects.
The summoned nymph can attempt to cast the following spells which are cast as a level 5 priest:
Notes[]
If the nymph has not been ordered to do anything, she will sometimes take the initiative and cast a Barkskin on herself, which doesn't expend the one cast of this spell she has available.
The nymph has very low HP and a poor Armor Class, making its main advantage is the creature's multiple spell casting availability.
Although classified as a level 5 priest spellcaster, some of the nymph's spells are stronger than they appear because they're coded with minimums based on when a priest (druid, cleric, etc.) can access them. For example, the description of the priest Confusion spell states that it lasts for 1 round/2 levels, so a caster of level 5 should (in theory) only get 2 rounds, but it actually lasts for 7 rounds (as it's normally only available to a divine caster of level 14 and upwards).
This spell is flagged as "Hostile", but that might be an error. Either way, it won't cause hostility if cast nearby innocent/neutral creatures.
The nymph's combat statistics, which differ from its normal creature version, are shown below.

Trivia[]
The Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition Call Woodland Beings spell has some noticeable differences from the rather simplistic implementation of video game version.
In the PnP ruleset, this spell is only usable outdoors, which isn't the case in the game's version. Additionally, the spell can potentially call one or more brownies, centaurs, pixies, dryads, sprites, treant or unicorn creatures - although this is limited by the type of woodland the caster is in - the spell is not a certain supplier of called beings and may be unfulfilled.
