Brown Dragon Acid Breath is an innate ability available to Brown Dragons in the game saga.

This innate ability is initiated via internal creature scripting during combat. The purpose of the spell is to apply Acid damage in an Area of Effect to the dragon's enemies.

Effects[]

The ability is uninterruptible and takes little time to deploy. The scripted targeting will fire over a selected target and area surrounding it.

This is typically within the creature's sight detection range.

All creatures in the area of effect are subject to the effects. Rather than a cone of acid spreading forth from the dragon, this projectile will burst from the central aiming point/target and spread in a ring of corrosive destruction.

When a dragon deploys an acid dragon breath, a blast explodes upon enemies within the AoE who are then subjected to 24d6 Acid damage. A quick reaction Saving throw vs Breath will apply, and a successful save will reduce the damage by half. Perhaps the victim was able to dive aside, roll away from the burst, or raise a shield up to deflect some of the spray.

Gameplay[]

Any form of acid protection and or acid damage resistance will help mitigate the powerful blast.

No magic resistance or spell protections such as Globe of Invulnerability can stop the dragon acid, except for a Spell Shield - which is bugged and isn't consumed after the attack.

As this acid blast ability has an area of effect, a Reflected Image or Mirror Image illusion won't interact with the spell and offers no protection/decoy capability.

Mod content[]

The Sword Coast Stratagems and Spell Revisions mods reclassify Dragon Breath attacks as having no Spell School or "Secondary Type".

This breath weapon is not a "Magic Attack" type, but a "None" classification. This means that certain spells or items that protect against this secondary type will be bypassed, such as a Spell Shield.
