The Athkatla Bridge District spans the river that separates the poor southern, and richer northern, districts. To the south is Waukeen's Promenade, Slums, Docks, Graveyard and City Gates; to the north, the Temple and Government Districts.

Lt. Aegisfield and the "Skinner" murders[]
The very first time the party tries to cross the Athkatla Bridge, they are unavoidably intercepted by Lieutenant Aegisfield. He will warn everyone about murders occurring here, which begins the district's very first side quest, providing the option to locate and confront those responsible. More comments and outcries from concerned citizens are heard when you observe the latest adjacent crime scene.
Gameplay[]
- The party is free to engage with a number of commoners and regular folk, as well as Nobles and tradesmen moving about the district. Some have voice acting audio. There is often some amusing and unique dialogue available. The core party companions often have their own interjections. This is a great opportunity for role playing and game immersion. There are lines for Viconia, Jan Jansen, Edwin, Valygar, Keldorn and others.
- Gather information by trying to speak with anyone in the district. One never knows what kind of informational tidbits can be gathered. This may be an opportune time to pursue gathering clues for the Solve the "skinner" murders in the Bridge District quest.
- An armor-clad halfling with a sling is seen peering into the sky and scanning the roof tops. Find out more by speaking to Stivan the Hunter.
- A comely and unusually handsome gnome named Bertrand the "Companion" is strolling the street. If Jan Jansen is in the party, he'll recognize Bertrand. Have a chat with this gigolo to learn more.
- If exploring down by the waterside onto the docks, you will eventually find the merchant Qadeel. See his page for details, as there is a one-time opportunity for a helpful deed and potential experience reward.
- Observe a quarrel in the street involving the lass Bubbles. Perhaps the party might recognize some scoundrels from Baldur's Gate present as well.
- Avail the services of the merchant stands in the district and browse their wares. If there is a Rogue in the party, perhaps an attempt to do some "discount" shopping is in order?
- There is a large and popular Tavern in the district, full of various characters, rumors, entertainment and possible adventuring leads. It is called the Five Flagons Inn. A smaller establishment is further along named Delosar's Inn.
- Take care should the party wander inside a private building uninvited. Trouble could be stirred up, or some valuables found. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
- At nightfall, if traveling through the Bridge district for the first time the party will most likely be approached by an elven thief-looking figure who will demand your gold.
- Also at night, after certain key events including speaking with Bodhi and hearing her offer, there are chances of triggering various encounters with certain Vampire groups. The Bridge district is just one of several outdoor Athkatla districts that can spawn these groups. You may meet Del, Tanova and Parisa in the district streets. If you have sided with Bodhi, then the dialogue will be different. If the party have not accepted Bodhi's offer, then there may be blood spilled, figuratively and literally. In some cases, contact with a vampire occurs with a confrontation with the Shadow Thieves. Sometimes they will be fighting each other, and other times they may only be addressed, and then the Vampire will leave, but the Thieves turn hostile towards the party. In all cases decisions are left up to Gorion's Ward as to appropriate actions. The party may also do nothing in some cases and not get involved. The choice is up to the party.
Companion[]
The potential companion Neera is introduced into the BG2EE campaign in this district. If you have explored the whole area, and then retrace your path back to the location where you first encountered Lt. Aggesfield, then a scene will automatically play out for the party. Afterwards, when the party leaves and travels from the Bridge District to another area, the rest of her introduction will continue in a "between" area.
