A Blur spell causes the outline of the caster's form to waver and shift.
Description[]
“ | When a Blur spell is cast, the wizard causes the outline of his form to become blurred, shifting and wavering. This distortion causes all missile and melee attacks against the caster to be made with a -3 penalty. The wizard also gains a +1 bonus to all of his Saving Throws. | ” |
Gameplay[]
This spell is applied to the caster only.
Once the spell is applied, the caster's sprite is rendered with a Blur overlay graphic effect, and the combat log displays a text reading "Blur".
Additionally, a sound effect audibles when the spell is first cast, and another when the spell's duration expires.
The spell bestows a 3 point Armor Class bonus, and all Saving throw modifiers are improved by 1 point.
This spell can be removed by any Dispel Magic effect, as well as certain divination attack spells/abilities such as Detect Illusion, or True Sight.
As this spell is an illusionary protection type spell, it is not affected by a Breach spell.
In the original games, multiple instances of Blur could stack; this isn't the case in the Enhanced Editions.
Contrary to the description, Blur does not impose a THAC0 penalty on enemies, but merely grants an AC bonus to the caster. While in most cases the end result is the same, it matters when the general AC cap is reached.
This spell caps at caster level 20, lasting up to 44 rounds.

Trivia[]
The Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition Wizard spell Blur behaves differently than BG the game's design. The D&D version causes all missile and melee combat attacks against the caster to be made with -4 penalties on the first attempt and -2 penalties on all successive attacks, and +1 saving throw to direct magical attacks.
