Baldur's Gate Wiki

A Blur spell causes the outline of the caster's form to waver and shift.

When a Blur spell is cast, the wizard causes the outline of his form to become blurred, shifting and wavering. This distortion causes all missile and melee attacks against the caster to be made with a -3 penalty. The wizard also gains a +1 bonus to all of his Saving Throws.

  • In the original games, multiple instances of Blur could stack; this isn't the case in the Enhanced Editions.
  • Contrary to the description, Blur does not impose a THAC0 penalty on enemies, but merely grants an AC bonus to caster. While in most cases the end result is the same, it matters when AC cap is reached.
  • Most (competent) enemy wizards will use this spell, and certain bosses have items that imparts its effects when a map is loaded.
  • As an illusionary protection, certain divination magic and the Detect Illusion skill can remove it from hostile creatures.

Spell Revisions mod has changed this arcane spell, revising its effects, duration, and description:
Level: 2
School: Illusion
Range: Personal
Duration: 5 turns
Casting Time: 2
Area of Effect: Caster
Saving Throw: None

A Blur spell causes the mage’s form and spirit to become blurred, shifting and wavering. This distortion causes all melee and missile attacks against the caster to be made with -3 penalties, whereas all saves vs. spell are made by the caster with a +3 bonus. Multiple castings of this spell are not cumulative.

Note:The SR mod does not modify the final AC value, but instead modifies each AC value for crushing, slashing, piercing and missile. This works even if the general AC cap is reached, and still provides additional protection.
