Blindness temporarily blinds the targeted creature.
Description[]
“ | This 1st-level spell temporarily blinds its target. A Saving Throw is allowed and, if successful, there are no harmful effects. If a victim is blinded, he receives a -4 penalty to his attack rolls and Armor Class. | ” |
Gameplay[]
- The real power of this spell comes not from to-hit or armor class penalties (which are nonetheless strong in their own right) but from an "undocumented" feature that affected enemies will have their sight range reduced to 1 foot – affected creatures may only perceive and target a creature adjacent to their person, albeit with the penalties described.
- Playable thieves can actually benefit from blinded status effects – see thieves' special abilities for details.
- Very few creatures are outright immune to blindness, making this spell potentially useful even into late ToB when combined with saving throw penalties such as Greater Malison or Doom.

Spell Revisions mod has replaced the Blindness spell with Obscuring Mist. See below for description:
Obscuring Mist
Level: 1
School: Conjuration
Range: Long
Duration: 6 rounds
Casting Time: 5
Area of Effect: 20’ radius
Saving Throw: None
When this spell is cast, a misty bank of fog billows out from the designated point obscuring all sight. Everyone within the cloud suffer -2 penalty to attack rolls, and have their line of sight halved. Anyone, inside or outside the cloud, trying to attack a creature concealed by the fog with ranged weapons will do so with a -4 penalty to attack rolls. Creatures with blindsight, or that do not rely on sight can fight within the cloud without penalties.
The Spell Revision version of True Sight or True Seeing provides protection from the Blindness.
