The figurine is potentially obtainable during Shadows of Amn and the Enhanced Edition, as early as Chaper 2.
It can be carried over into Throne of Bhaal as well.
Description[]
When first examined, and the item is not yet identified it merely is described "This is a small animal figurine" - if identified then the following information is shown:

Gameplay[]

Place the figurine in a character's "Quick Item" slot, similar to where a potion or wand would be readied for use, then select the figuring with the cursor to activate it's once per rest "charge".
When activated, a targeting cursor is displayed, and a designated point is selected on the area map and clicked - this will be where the figurine's summoned creature Kitthix will appear.
The designated spot on the map will render a "blossoming flower" summoning animation lasting a few seconds, and then Kitthix the spider will appear, ready to receive orders
Kitthix is a green circled controlled creature - and is treated as and follows the restrictions of all summoned creatures in the game - the spider is best used by giving it commands and selecting what it is to do, including targets and where to move - if left to its own simplistic AI script, it may not behave as the player wishes.
One of Kitthix's most useful abilities is the Web Tangle, but this ability has to be initiated by the player, and from Kitthix's special ability menu - aim it at a single target creature - the spider can use this ability twice per summoning period.
The figurine recharges after a standard 8-hour rest period.
