Disambiguation icon Not to be confused with Beast Master.

The Half Elf Beastmaster is found in the rear restricted area of the Copper Coronet, to the east of the fighting pits in a corridor with adjoining animal and creature cells.

Eh? I don't recognize you? Who are you?

— Beastmaster

Gameplay[]

If the party is back here in the Beastmaster's area, this means that the Copper Coronet guards are already hostile, as no unauthorized person is allowed back here.

It is also possible that the party has already spoken to Hendak in his prisoner cell - and has agreed to find the key needed to free him and the other prisoners. That also means the player's Journal has registered the Free Hendak and the slaves quest, which clarifies the goal of what to do.

When the party visits the animal and beast cage area, they may open any cell doors as they see fit (and thus releasing anything within). At some point is likely they'll spot the Beastmaster and his companion pet Tabitha. If the Beastmaster detects a party member he'll initiate a verbal challenge.

Unless the party agrees to leave, hostilities will ensue. He also opens all the beast cells automatically when that happens.

Depending on the party's composition, the Beastmaster may prove to be a dangerous opponent and can unleash accurate and rapid bow fire. He's less of a threat when forced to fight with his spear in close quarters.

If his pet is slain, he'll shout an outraged remark about this and seek vengeance for harming the animal.

My Tabitha... loyal to the end. Your death I shall avenge, on that I swear.

The opening of the cells is unlikely to help the Beastmaster as much as he hopes.

You'll be able to open the first two cells with two Mutated Gibberling creatures and one Jaguar before he notices you. The rear two cells hold a Minotaur and a Leopard which have the issue of being unable to see you, therefore it is likely only creatures from the middle two cells, a Black Bear and a Grizzly Bear, will come to his aid.

Notes[]

  • The original game has this creature with a True Neutral alignment, and this is changed to Neutral Evil in the Enhanced Edition.
  • The Beastmaster has the wizard spell Web memorized two times from the priest scroll but will not make use of it. This is removed from the BG2EE creature version.
  • In the Enhanced Edition game version, if attempting to pick his pockets the rogue needs 30 skill points above the usual difficulty, 50, of stealing from a quick item slot, due to the Beastmaster's own skill with picking pockets.

Sword Coast Stratagems mod revises the Beastmaster slightly, giving him an SCS "Fighter" AI script for smarter tactical behavior.

Additionally, the bear and animals move faster with SCS (it is a component that you install called "Faster Bears"), and the other creatures don't just sit in their cells when hostilities break out but respond by moving out to seek intruders.

Weapon proficiencies are revised, and a few potions are provided to boost the half-elf's abilities and to heal wounds during battle.
