Bastard Swords are a cross between long swords and two-handed swords. They are a bit longer than a longsword, have a double edge and they can be wielded in one hand, if the wielder has enough experience with this type of weapon. Their slashing damage range is between 2-8 points and it requires 11 Strength to wield a bastard sword. The weapon has a speed factor of 8 and the weapon weighs 10 lbs. Monsters who can wield this sword are commonly using this weapon; for example, hobgoblins. Warrior classes and bards can wield bastards swords. This item appears in Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and it will also appear in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition. It's sold at most stores selling weapons in all games.
In Baldur's Gate, this weapon falls under the large sword proficiency, while in the other games it's a proficiency on its own.
