The Avatar of Rillifane must be awakened in the temple of The Leaflord, appearing in the shape of a blurred shambling mound.

Gameplay[]
Getting inside the palace in Suldanessellar[]
After having placed the three artifacts on the temple altar – a Golden Goblet of Life, Moonblade, and a Talisman of Rillifane, the avatar appears within the temple and immediately booms out a proclamation.
“ | ** THE AVATAR OF THE GREAT OAK STANDS BEFORE YOU, MORTALS. WHAT TRANSPIRES HERE THAT REQUIRES THE ATTENTION OF THE LEAFLORD? ** | ” |
He knows about the current situation in the city, explains Irenicus's plans, whom he calls "the Exile", and admits that he himself "cannot touch him".
But, as a deity, Rillifane finds ways to help preventing what "the first of the Seldarine would never permit" and that their "children will suffer". He awakens the guardian spirits of the forest and tells that his daughter, Ellesime, would be able to aid in the matter after being freed – for which purpose he then breaks Irenicus's sealing of The Palace and bestows the Staff of the Woodlands to the PC before vanishing again.
“ | ** I CAN DO NO MORE. ** | ” |
“ | I summoned the avatar of the elven god Rillifane Rallathil in order to get past Irenicus's seal on the palace gates. The avatar awakened the guardian spirits of the forest, which attacked the invading monsters throughout the city. It then told me that Irenicus's plan is to take the power of the Tree of Life for himself... both for power and revenge. Queen Ellesime is Rillifane's daughter and may be the only one who can stop the mage.
Rillifane broke the seal on the palace gates... my way within is now clear. |
” |
After the Leaflord finishes the dialogue and disappears - the city will spawn several Elven spirits and new enemies in a few map locations. The purpose of this is to show how the power of awakening the Avatar of Rillifane will spell doom for the invaders remaining in the city.
Mostly, this episode has also unlocked the doorway into the Palace. The player can now move forward to find the Tree of Life, Ellesime, and confront Irenicus.
Notes[]
- The avatar of Rillifane cannot be attacked as the player never has control of their characters before it is removed from the map. It's also immune to almost all status effects, death, and damage for plot purposes.
Trivia/bugs[]
- Baldur's Gate II:
Shadows of Amn (2000)
This icon indicates content from the original Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn campaign. According to Demihuman Deities , a sourcebook for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, the ruleset which the Baldur's Gate series is based on, Rillifane Rallathil is of chaotic good alignment – as his avatar should be which, however, is lawful neutral in the original Shadows of Amn; this is fixed in the Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition.
