Aphril is a female human conjurer and one of the inmates of Spellhold.

All around... all around... behind... above... all around! Ahh!

Gameplay[]

Aphril can be found on the Spellhold Main Floor of the Asylum in Chapter 4 where she is one of several inmates held inside. She has her own assigned cell. Her ability to see through the planes drove her mad and she will tell the player about the things she sees and even show them.

The party may initiate further dialogue by speaking with her in the inmate cellblock area. Various interjections are scripted by certain core party companions.

During the first meeting with the inmates, including Aphril, the group are protected from death with the MINHP1.ITM. They are essential to the plot script, and sometimes players recklessly try and kill everything everywhere. There will be plenty of blood spilling later in the quest, so no need to jump the gun.

Later in the questline, Aphril will join with the party to defeat Irenicus in the final battle of the Asylum adventure. She will not be a controllable creature during the fight but will take spell casting action as scripted to defend herself and attack Irenicus and any hostile creatures in the battle zone. The conjurer has a well populated spellbook of memorized spells levels 1 through 7.

Like all of the inmates, she later dies during the fight against Irenicus in the Spellhold Basement. This certain fate is scripted for plot purposes and can't be prevented.

Cross-references to other games:[]

Most notably she sees things from two other games, namely Planescape: Torment and Neverwinter Nights.

  • "I see... a city of changing streets under the Lady of Pain. My eyes... pluck out my eyes."
  • "I see... a walking corpse... he speaks... to a pillar of skulls? See, it is madness!"
  • "I see... a place... coming soon... where there is... never winter... where people have control... over their own stories. Yes, it's a shameless plug from Aphril Foreshadow."

Mod content[]

Portraits from Portraits Portraits Everywhere

The Sword Coast Stratagems revises Aphril's memorized spells and AI. The mod also randomly revises mage kit assignment on install, and she could be an Invoker or an Enchanter for example. This will allow a more robust initial pre-buffing of protective spells at the outset of hostilities, especially against Irenicus - who also has a deadlier initial attack phase.

In the unmodded game she is woefully unprepared to resist damaging spells of any kind. With SCS she has more staying power and can remain in the fight longer. The mod also furnishes Aphril with one or two potions for quaffing (two when fighting Irenicus).

The Spell Revisions mod will change her spells to the mod versions.
