Amuana was a female child prophet born to the faith of Amaunator, the now-deceased God of the Sun, generations before the Time of Troubles. Although it was hoped that she would lead a resurgence in the waning faith of her patron, it was not to be; slain in her youth by enemies of Amaunator, her remains were entombed at what is now the Ruined Temple in the Umar Hills.

When Gorion's Ward passes that way, her skeletal remains are being desecrated by the shadow-spawned wolves that have made their lair inside of the now-corrupted temple. The ghosts of Badon and Dettseh, her custodians in life, are powerless to rescue them, and plead with Gorion's Ward to restore them to her coffin. Doing so is mandatory to complete the quest Investigate the Deaths in the Umar Hills; only by restoring her bones and resanctifying her coffin will the ghost of Amuana appear in order to grant the Dawn's Light Symbol to the Bhaalspawn, allowing them access to the Shadow Altar and the Shade Lord at the end of the dungeon.

She also provides the party with the Shadow Dragon Wardstone, allowing them to bypass the Shadow Dragon Thaxll'ssillyia that stands in the way.

I have some power. I have power enough to elude the attention of their guardians, if necessary, and I can give this to you. A wardstone... carry it and the dreaded shadow dragon will not notice your passing.

Trivia[]

Though Amuana presents the Shadow Dragon Wardstone as something she “can give,” she does not explicitly state that she created it. Its description—“a virtual area of darkness, [] suck[ing] the very light from space around it”—aligns poorly with her role as a holy servant of Amaunator. A possible explanation is that Amuana did not create the stone herself, but held or seized it as a key attuned to the wards of the Shadow Dragon and the Shade Lord. Her “power” then lies not in shaping light into darkness, but in retaining and delivering this shadow-attuned object despite the enemies that slew her.
