Baldur's Gate Wiki

Amalas is a fighter, standing in the Copper Coronet next to two ruffian pals.

Gameplay[]

He will initiate bullying dialogue when a Gorion's Ward is close enough - and he'll attempt to insult and goad the PC into a duel in the fighting pit, managed by Surly. Seems like he must have done this sort of thing before.

If Jaheira is a companion, she has some words that you should restrain yourself from accepting the challenge.

If you turn down his challenge to fight and Minsc is in the group, he will attack Amalas for insulting Gorion's Ward, leading to a battle with Amalas and the Ruffians.

Winning the duel nets 9,500 experience (plus 1,800 for killing Amalas).

If the Ward defeats Amalas, the two remaining ruffians will remain neutral, but they can be attacked and killed (26 XP each) with no consequences, if desired. The Copper Coronet is one of those places where deadly fights can frequently occur. If they are spoken to, they will say something about the death of Amalas and leave.

Dialogue[]

Amalas: "Oy! Look at th' dolly boy, all sacked up like an "adventurer." Are ye supposed to be tough or something, aye?"
  • "Watch your tongue, churl, or you'll loose it quick enough."
Amalas: "Oy! Oy! Theat sound like a bleedin' challenge, it does. I've no fear of ye, dolly boy. How about it, then, aye? Ye want to fight?"
  • "Very well. If it's a fight you want, I'll not back down from it."
Amalas: "Ye hears 'at, boys? Looks like he wants t' fight!"
Ruffian: "No one said he was smart, aye? Ha!"
Ruffian: "Yea! Ye're th' best, Amalas!"
Amalas: "So be it! Hey, SURLY!"
Surly: "What?! What is it?!"
Amalas: "I gots me here some gold for a fight! An' a loser to be, sure enough!"
Surly: "Bah! There's no need to yell so loud, idgit! Fine, fine, I'll have th' bleeddin' pit set up for ye... once I sees your gold, tat is."

Note[]

Amalas has a Chaotic Neutral alignment in the original game, but it is changed to LE in the Enhanced Edition.
