Aldeth Sashenstar is a nobleman in Baldur's Gate and the head of the city's Merchants' League.

Gameplay[]

Gorion's Ward first meets Aldeth in the Cloakwood forest where he's found standing outside a hunting cabin with a couple of fellow hunters, Palin and Balquo.

Only during the first conversation with him (if his reaction to the party member speaking to him is at least "neutral") will he ask for protection from some "woodland savages" causing trouble. If you agree to help, this will lead to the eventual confrontation between the hunters and some local druids led by the arch-druid Seniyad, with each group supposedly responsible for the death of a member from the other group. Violence will follow.

What purpose have you wandering this far into Cloakwood? Are you looking to earn some money? If you are, I would be willing to pay a considerable amount for your assistance. I am Aldeth Sashenstar, a noble from the city of Baldur's Gate. Perhaps you have heard of me? No matter. I am looking for some good strong people who could defend me against a band of savages. These ruffians have been threatening my companions and me with bodily harm. Would you be interested?

If the player sides with Aldeth, this will lead to a second meeting, and a quest, in the city of Baldur's Gate.

If party sides with Seniyad and kills Aldeth, then Aldeth's brother Dabron Sashenstar will confront the party in Central Baldur's Gate, rightfully holding them responsible for his brother's death.(*)

Note: In the Enhanced Edition, if Jaheira is in the party a peaceful resolution is possible.(*)

Investigating the Merchants' League Estate[]

After aiding Aldeth in the Cloakwood forest, he will appear a second time outside the Merchants' League Estate in Southwest Baldur's Gate to ask for your help yet again. If you agree, he will ask you to investigate his business dealings and partners.

Then just follow me into the Merchants' League Estate. You may begin the investigation as soon as you get inside. I shall be waiting for any reports of your progress on the second floor.

Notes / Trivia[]

  • Before talking with Aldeth, it is possible to kick out Jaheira, side with Aldeth, and then as soon as the fight starts, ask Jaheira to rejoin your party, and kill the druids with her help.
  • It is unknown how Dabron could have known this (Doppelgangers may have told him, and they almost certainly killed both Aldeth's unnamed friend and as well as the unnamed druid, thus creating this whole showdown. Very likely the doppelganger mentioned by name, Shalak, in the letters found during Aldeth's Baldur's Gate quest).
