Aesgareth is a Tanar'ri cambion demon encountered in the Watcher's Keep Teleport Maze. At some point the demon left his own Plane and ended up getting trapped inside the maze along with a loyal Tiefling and Fell Cat retinue.
“ | Pardon my atrocious manners. I sometimes forget that you primes are civilized. My name is Aesgareth, and these are my servants and pets. | ” |
— Aesgareth the charismatic cambion |
Gameplay[]
This cambion will initiate dialogue when the party enters this area.
The dialogue will progress to a juncture where each party member is awarded 10,000 XP, and then allow a response.
It is possible through choices and replies to basically not agree to participate or accept any proposals from the fiend - leading to a hostile reaction from Aesgareth. If this occurs, then a fight will break out.
Otherwise, the party will eventually receive the side quest The Gambling Cambion through all other dialogue options. See that quest page for details, choices, and potential outcomes.
If the party enters into hostilities with Aesgareth, the fiend will initiate its preparatory spell buffs, and occasionally cast other spells as outlined in the InfoBox.
Aesgareth is a competent sword wielder and can go toe to toe as a close quarters' combatant.
It is possible that Aesgareth will receive healing assistance or other buffs from the tiefling spell casters during the battle.
If the fiend is defeated, then the final required Scepter Gem to assemble the Scepter of Radiance can be recovered from the fiend's body.
Additionally, the Deck of Many Things can also be obtained from the corpse. Fighting Aesgareth is the only way to obtain this rare item.
Killing Aesgareth causes all the other surviving servants and Fell Cats to abandon the battle and flee the area.
Notes[]
None of Aesgareths items can be stolen, except for the two random treasures, and those items have a -100% pick pocketing penalty. Failure turns Aesgareth hostile.
