Aegis-fang is a unique Throwing Hammer/War Hammer +3 found in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn. It is the weapon of Wulfgar, made for him by Bruenor Battlehammer, both of them members of Drizzt Do'Urden's party. This weapon has two seemingly identical variations: An unobtainable Throwing Hammer version used by Wulfgar, and a weaker War Hammer version that can be pickpocketed or looted from him.

The Throwing Hammer version possesses the THAC0 and damage bonuses of a +5 weapon, deals an additional +2 damage when used in melee, has a throwing range of 100 ft., and can only be used by single class Fighters and Monks. The War Hammer version possesses none of these extra bonuses or restrictions. Both versions have a base damage of 2d4 instead of 1d4+1 like a normal War/Throwing Hammer, have an enchantment level of 0 instead of 3 (effectively treated as 1 in the Enhanced Edition), weigh 1 lb. less than a generic War Hammer +3 (1 lb. more than a generic Throwing Hammer), and require 18 Strength to use.

Description

This weapon was made specifically for Wulfgar by Bruenor Battlehammer, and the strongest of its enchantments only function while in the young warrior's hands. Anyone else wields Aegis-Fang as a War Hammer +3.

Bugs[]

  • Both versions of Aegis-fang share the same identified description despite the unobtainable version having very different properties, though this is easily explainable by the fact that the unobtainable version's description cannot be viewed without cheating.

Trivia[]

  • While hammers are generally associated with Dwarves, Wulfgar is a very tall human and the weapon was balanced to match his height[1]. This trait has however not resulted in racial restrictions in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn.
