Gameplay[]
Baldur's Gate II:
Shadows of Amn (2000)
This icon indicates content from the original Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn campaign. In the original Shadow of Amn (SoA), the XP cap was set to 2.95 million. As a result, it was impossible to reach a level that would allow any player character to pick or memorize level 9 spells. The only way to access level 9 spells, such as Time Stop, was to find a scroll. Such scrolls were extremely rare. Vithal was well known among experienced players for holding the very first Time Stop scroll that a player could get hands on through normal gameplay.
Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition – Shadows of Amn (2013)
This icon indicates content from the Shadows of Amn campaign of the Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition. As of BG2EE v.2.5.16.6, all the "treasures" in Vithal's inventory can be pickpocketed, including a total of five level 8 or 9 scrolls. If killed the mage will additionally drop the ritual book that you gave him and a plain quarterstaff. Even if provoked, however, he is not interested in fighting the player and will teleport away once the quest is over, with only a few brief moments before disappearing from the game for good.
Mod content[]
Installation of the Quest Pack Mod adds a "Reward Negotiation" component. The player will be able to select specifically what items constitute their share of the loot during the division of Vithal's spoils from the Underdark portals. Some dialogue will be added, and reactions from Vithal will differ from the regular game.
With this mod, he can be made hostile, and he'll not attempt to flee but instead defend himself and all his treasures. Also, a failed pickpocket attempt with this mod may lead to a provoked battle.
The Sword Coast Stratagems increases the elemental guardians at each Portal. The Spell Revisions mod alongside SCS bestows special abilities to the Greater Elementals.
